Velodrome Panel of Consultants
The panel members are based in the Manchester UK area unless stated.
Velodream Managing Director and for seven years the Velodrome Cycling Manager at the National Cycling Centre, Manchester, and previously the Competition Director at British Cycling. Rides tracks in the UK and around the world, and races at World Masters level.
Peter is a Velodrome coach at the NCC, a National Road and Track Commissaire, and a world famous Keirin Derny Driver. He has also produced Consultant Structural Engineer reports for the UCI.
Guy is the NCC Derny mechanic. Guy can set up a Derny scheduled maintenance programme, and train mechanics to service and maintain Derny’s. We can purchase and deliver new Derny’s anywhere in the World.
Paul was the first ever employee at Manchester Velodrome who built the Manchester Velodrome, and for 19 years the Building Services Manager. Paul also commissioned and managed the build of the World’s first ever purpose built indoor BMX Centre in 2011.
Three-time Olympic medallist and double Track World Champion, making him one of the most experienced and well respected riders in British cycling - and one of the most versatile riders – he has been British Kilometre Champion and British Elite Road Race Champion! Rob can advise on the needs of an Elite rider in training and race mode.
Previously the Timing Services Manager at the NCC, Gordon has managed the timing at three UCI World Championships, numerous World Hour records and every Manchester round of the UCI Track World Cup and World Masters Track Championships. Gordon can offer specific advice on the merits of Swiss Timing and Seiko products, and recommend changes for domestic timing applications. Manchester also has sophisticated embedded timing with Mylaps in the Velodrome and BMX venues.
Rafael Romay (Mexico City)
Currently active with Velodrome designers and builders throughout Latin America, and can facilitate the expertise within the panel for Latin America and any Spanish speaking current or future facility.
A rider, coach, six day fan and language expert who can translate the important operational documents and customer information needed to support the management operation and delivery.
Venue media management - Ian is director of the Wardle-Whittell Agency, Britain’s largest sports editorial freelance agency which provides material to all of the country’s national newspapers/websites and the BBC. He has also worked in sports public relations for numerous clients including the NBA, Nike and Great Britain Basketball. A keen competitive track cyclist, he has won medals at the British and World Masters Championships.

Derny driver tutoring and training tutors is also available from our panel of experts, and from British Cycling Coaching and Education.
The team can offer advice remotely via e mail or via Skype, and of course visit the city or venue.
Whilst we may offer suggestions regarding suppliers, we do not take commissions from suppliers who may be contracted to the build or supply following our advice.
